Smuggling in West Argyll & Lochaber is a remarkable account of the time, prior to 1745, when Scotland was home to a widespread and highly sophisticated trade in smuggled goods. The account of these practices is told, largely in the participants' own words, from records preserved from the period mainly in the archives of Archattan Prior on Loch Etive, near Oban.
