Old Johnstone & Elderslie

An excellent collection of 52 period photographs of these closely linked communities showing scenes which will still be fondly remembered by many: the bandstand on Houstoun Square; the trams that ran to Paisley and Glasgow; Elderslie tram depot; Thorn Public School; Wallace Public School and Johnstone High School; Elderslie Cottage Hospital and the mills of Finlayson Bousfield and Paton. There are children paddling in the late-lamented public park pond and an unusual aerial view of Johnstone, taken not from a plane but from a hot-air balloon!
