Fishing and tourism were North Berwick's staples, and pictures of the outdoor swimming pool, a paddle steamer at Galloway's Pier and children paddling on the shore show the town during its Edwardian heyday. A gannet-catcher on Bass Rock and a picture of the island of Fidra - thought by some to be the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island - are some of the other local attractions illustrated. The nearby villages of Dirleton, Gullane and Aberlady are included too. |
